What power supply do you need for gaming?
A power supply feeds every part in your PC, so a weak or low-quality one can cause crashes or damage. Choosing well comes down to wattage, efficiency, cables and build quality.
How much wattage do you need?
The graphics card is the biggest power draw, so start with its recommendation. NVIDIA's recommended system power is about 550 W for the RTX 4060, 650 W for the RTX 4070, 750 W for the RTX 4080 and 850 W for the RTX 4090. Other graphics cards publish similar numbers on their spec sheets.
Aim for some headroom, around 20 to 30 percent above what your parts draw. A power supply works most efficiently in the middle of its range and has room for a future upgrade.
What 80 PLUS ratings mean
80 PLUS certifies how efficiently a power supply turns the power from the wall into the power your parts use. The ratings are Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Titanium, and higher ratings waste less energy as heat. Bronze means the unit reaches at least 82 to 85 percent efficiency at typical loads, which is a solid choice for mid-range gaming builds.
Modular, semi-modular or fixed cables
A fully modular power supply lets you detach every cable, so only the ones you use sit in the case. That makes the build tidier and helps airflow. Fixed-cable units cost less but leave unused cables to hide.
Check the connectors
Count the PCIe power connectors against your graphics card: many cards need one or two 8-pin (6+2 pin) connectors, and high-end cards can need more. Check you have a CPU connector (4+4 pin or 8 pin) and enough SATA connectors for your drives.
Signs of a well-built power supply
Look for 105°C capacitors, a full set of protections (over-voltage, under-voltage, over-power, short-circuit and over-current), and a large, quiet fan. These are the features that keep the power supply stable for years.
Where the SONIC PRIME 700W fits
The SONIC PRIME 700W is a 700 W fully modular power supply with 80 PLUS Bronze certification, 105°C main capacitors and OVP, UVP, OPP, SCP and OCP protections. Its +12 V rail delivers 58A (650W). It comes with 20+4Pin Motherboard × 1, [4+4]Pin CPU +12V × 1, 4Pin Peripheral × 2, SATA × 6 and VGA PCI 6+2 PIN × 2, and costs PKR 9,000.
Frequently asked questions
Is 700 W enough for an RTX 4070?
NVIDIA's recommended system power for the RTX 4070 is 650 W, so a 700 W power supply meets it with a little headroom. Check the other parts in your build too.
What does 80 PLUS Bronze mean?
It means the power supply has been tested to reach at least 82 to 85 percent efficiency at typical loads. Higher ratings (Gold, Platinum) are more efficient.
Is a modular power supply worth it?
For most builds, yes. Detachable cables mean fewer unused wires in the case, which makes the build tidier and helps airflow.
